The Power of Consistency: Starting Small and Showing Up

Have you ever made a promise to yourself that felt simple at first but then turned into a real challenge to keep? I recently committed to something that’s been on my heart for years: creating a YouTube channel and posting a video every Thursday—no matter what.

No matter how I look.
No matter what I’m wearing.
No matter what excuses try to hold me back.

For years, I felt this nudge to share pieces of my journey, to speak to anyone who might need to hear it. The idea first came to me in 2015, but I let fear and perfectionism stop me. Looking back now, I wonder how many lives could’ve been impacted if I had just stepped out in faith.

Letting Go of Perfection

This time, I’ve decided not to let perfectionism get in the way. I won’t worry about editing or meeting impossible standards. Those standards often become excuses for not doing what we’re called to do. This time, I’m choosing consistency over perfection.

It’s funny how life works. I’ve experienced so much transformation since 2015, and the lessons I’ve learned could’ve been shared along the way. But instead of dwelling on what I didn’t do, I’m focusing on what I can do now.

Consistency Starts With Showing Up

The word on my heart today is consistency. It’s such a simple yet powerful concept. The first step in being consistent is just showing up—for yourself, for others, and for the things that truly matter.

For a long time, I struggled with this. I’d start something, but as soon as it got hard or I lost interest, I’d stop. Jobs, relationships, even my own health journey—I let inconsistency rob me of progress. I lost over 100 pounds, only to gain it back because I couldn’t maintain the habits that got me there.

So, I ask you:

  • What have you been inconsistent with?
  • Who or what deserves more of your time and effort?
  • What habits do you need to break, and what new habits should replace them?

Replacing Old Habits With New Purpose

There’s a story in the Bible about Jesus casting demons out of a man. When the demons returned, they found the man’s house swept clean but empty, so they brought even more trouble with them. The lesson here is simple: when we let go of bad habits, we must fill that space with something good, or we risk going backward.

If you’re struggling to break a habit or start a new one, start small. Want to read more? Start with one page a day. Want to exercise? Commit to just seven minutes. The key is to start.

Overcoming Fear

For me, starting this YouTube channel was scary. I feared judgment and comparison. But I’ve realized that everyone starts somewhere, and the biggest critic is often ourselves.

So, I challenge you to step out in faith. Take that first step toward whatever’s been on your heart. It doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to be you.

My Commitment to You

Every Thursday, I’ll show up—raw, unfiltered, and authentic. I’ll share my journey, not because I have all the answers, but because I believe in the power of showing up.

If this resonates with you, I pray it encourages you to take action in your own life. Let’s grow together, one step at a time.

Until next time, stay consistent, stay authentic, and remember: small steps lead to big changes.

See you next Thursday!
